In 1978, to capitalize off the worldwide success of Star Wars, Toei released Message from Space across theaters. A year prior, they had pulled a similar maneuver in response to The Godfather, releasing their own ensemble gangster epic entitled Japan’s Don. Directed by Sadao Nakajima and starring most of Toei’s biggest name actors, the success of Japan’s Don promptly spawned two additional entries.
This release is dedicated to the memory of Sonny Chiba, Japan’s greatest action star.

Get 'em All is the kind of film from the Golden Age of Japanese cinema that I love unearthing: a visceral b/w noir that's on par with the other great crime thrillers of the era. Directed by the prodigious Eizo Sugawa (he made this at age 30, just one year after The Beast Shall Die!), scripted by Shuji Terayama, and starring iconic actors like Tatsuya Nakadai, Tetsuro Tanba and Kyoko Kishida.
